This site is part of the ON/OFF research project. The blog is a collection of relevant research, press articles and other related online content in English and German.

The purpose of the ON/OFF project by Sarah Genner is to study why individuals go offline and to find out whether there are differences in behavior and attitudes between various cultures, age groups, and occupations. The project tackles questions such as the mobile workplace, digital distractions, Internet addiction, burnout, and privacy. The results are intended to serve companies and schools when making decisions on online connectivity regulations.

The project is based on a multi-method research design with data collection from 25 expert interviews, various surveys, and scientific literature. The international research project is based at Zurich University in Switzerland and affiliated with the Harvard Berkman Center for Internet and Society in the United States. The project is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and supported by the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences.
